Matt Otto

Matthew Otto is a producer, composer, and live performer from Montreal. Best known as the instrumentalist half of the critically acclaimed band Majical Cloudz, he has cultivated a reputation for his dynamic and unorthodox approach to sound creation.

As a burgeoning musician, Matthew developed an early curiosity of music as a whole, from organic instruments to analog and digital technology. He soon found himself experimenting with self-built synthesizers and tape recorders he rescued from the trash and painstakingly gutted, modified and repaired. This inventive and scholarly obsession led to the Electroacoustic Music Studies program at Concordia University where he mastered music theory as well as classical and jazz piano. At the same time, a chance meeting with Devon Welsh led to a five year adventure as part of Majical Cloudz, and world tours that included captivating festival appearances at Primavera Sound, Pitchfork Fest, and Osheaga Music and Arts Festival, and sold out arena performances with pop phenom Lorde.

Most recently, Matthew’s lush sonic landscapes can be heard on records from the likes of Moses Sumney and Solange, and in the Cannes debuted film Mobile Homes.
