Tougher Than Leather is the fourth studio album from the American hip-hop group, Run DMC. The album was recorded in-part at Electric Lady Studios, and released in 1988, featuring the favorites “Run’s House” and “Mary, Mary.”
Tougher Than Leather was a response to the group’s hip-hop contemporaries, and influenced the addition of alliteration, polysyllabic rhyming, and storytelling. It is also notable for its emphasis on heavy sampling, and is hailed as a seminal classic of the hip-hop genre.
