Released July 13, 2004, The Tipping Point is the sixth studio album by The Roots, recorded at Electric Lady Studios. The album debuted at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts that year.

The Tipping Point is a musical departure from their previous work, and features a more diverse, pop-oriented sound — built on lyrics associated with rap-prowess, political insight, and social commentary.  The album is noted for its emphasis on soul, funk, and jazz music.

The album is considered The Roots’s breakthrough album, earning praise from major publications and critics. As of April 24, 2013, Things Fall Apart is certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
